Unit 1: Living organisms.

1. What are living things?

Levels of organization (tissues, organs, systems).
A tissue is a family of cells that live very close together, and work hard to do the same jobs. Many tissues come together to form what biologists call an organ. Organs then work together to form a system, and eventually the entire body of a lifeform.

Like animals, plants also have organs. Common plant organs are leaves, stems and roots.

2. Cells and cell types

Functions of the organelles.

How big is ...

Inside an amazing cell

Virtual cell. Plant cell: cut it, view electron micrographs images, etc.

3. The discovery of cells.
Go to this website and find out what these scientists discovered related to cells. Look on the Internet for some additional information about them (where were they from, when did they live, what did they study, what was their job, other discoveries they made, any other thing you consider that is interesting). Do this activity in your notebook.
